Artistic Director: Carmen Ching-man Lo

Ching-man Lo, Carmen graduated from the Columbia College Chicago, with a degree in Film & Video, a former Chung Ying Theatre Company associated member. Carmen’s talent is versatile.  During her stay in Chung Ying, she performed in the majority of the Company’s productions, including The Birthday Party, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Twelfth Night, City of Cats, and I Am Hong Kong.  Besides performing, she also translated, wrote and directed many works for the Company including Educating Rita, Antigone, Waking Up and Monsoon Complex. 

She has co-written screenplay Viva Erotica and Inner Senses, also television series for the Radio Television of Hong Kong.  In 1997, she has written and directed her independent project Paper Love which was well received by both the audience and critics.  In 1998, she has written and directed Morning Our City, a production of The 2nd Chinese Drama Festival, for the Amity Drama Club. In 2002, Carmen left Chung Ying Theatre and established her own company Cinematic Theatre.  Then written and directed most of the Company’s productions including Summer Fire, Autumn Maze, Winter Solemnity and Spring Doxology of the “Four Seasons Series”, The Wine House, Twin Spirit, Anything but Friendship, After the Good Old Days and Tell Me More.  Her recent work was co-written & co-directed Missing Sight for the Company in The 6th Chinese Drama Festival.

Carmen is now a member of the International Association of Theatre Critics (Hong Kong).  Since 2001, she has been a part-time instructor for the Integrated Learning Program of the Lingnan University, and since 2003 a part-time lecturer for the Media Arts Department of the Art School, HK Arts Centre.  Carmen is now the Artistic Director of “Cinematic Theatre”.
